I was once asked "Why did you decide to make a change?" Well the perfect answer is to live longer for my family and myself. But the honest truth is I did it because I had no other option. I was overweight most of my adolescent life and adult life until surgery. I was once around 370lbs (not sure exact weight since I had quit weighing myself) and started having issues due to type 2 diabetes and other health conditions. After many months of testing and being ill, I was diagnosed with gastroparaesis and was faced with a decision to continue to suffer or have some kind of surgery. So we began researching and we chose to have bariatric surgery in the hopes that it would correct the problem. After surgery in 2013, the issues discontinued, plus the added benefits of the new tool to manage calorie intake. So I then began working out and began competing competitively in Spartan Races and other obstacle course races! I went from taking 9 oral prescription medications and insulin injections daily, to nothing but vitamins daily! My entire family has changed for the better! We are now more conscience of food choices and exercise/activity levels! First and foremost do it for yourself, but do not forget those around you! Find something that motivates you, find a support system, my wife has been my support and my sons are my encouragement. Thank you Dr. Yu and TLC for the help!
